Amalgamated Bank Funds Full Reproductive Health Care Access For Employees and Communities
Amalgamated Bank is committed to safeguarding the right to choose for all communities. Abortion restrictions fall heaviest on people who are BIPOC, those with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, immigrants, and people with low incomes.
(New York, NY; Washington, DC) May 3, 2022 - In response to recent and ongoing attacks on reproductive rights, Amalgamated Bank announced today new internal Human Resource guidelines and the launch of the Critical Reproductive Access Fund, hosted by the Amalgamated Foundation.
Starting immediately, Amalgamated Bank will cover travel expenses for employees and their dependents who need to travel out of state to access reproductive health care. This includes plane fare or gas money, and hotel and meal expenses for the employee, or dependent. Recognizing that individuals seeking reproductive healthcare may have children already, childcare expenses for young children remaining at home will also be covered for up to five days.
“Our new guidelines were designed to ensure our employees and their families have the needed resources and access in order to make personal and confidential decisions regarding reproductive healthcare”, said Amalgamated Chief Executive Officer Priscilla Sims Brown.
Amalgamated Foundation also announced the launch of the Critical Reproductive Access Fund (CRAF), which will deploy and direct resources to organizations responding to the abortion access crisis. The CRAF is a grassroots fundraising effort led by Amalgamated Bank employees, to be strategically guided by field partners, and open to donors who are individuals, institutions, and other allies looking to financially support reproductive health providers and seekers, as well as reproductive justice advocates.
“Amalgamated Bank is committed to safeguarding the right to choose for all communities”, First Vice President, Commercial Banking, Maura Keaney noted. “Abortion restrictions fall heaviest on people who are BIPOC, those with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, immigrants, and people with low incomes.”
