Amalgamated Bank and Girls Who Invest Partner for Summer Internships
With less than 10 percent of the world’s investable capital managed by women, diversity in asset management is a critical goal for our industry to achieve.
NEW YORK – Amalgamated Bank this week announced the start of a six week paid internship for a Girls Who Invest scholar, who will be learning skills to further a career in asset management. This is the inaugural summer for the Girls Who Invest program.
“We are very proud to partner with such an important organization,” said Keith Mestrich, CEO of Amalgamated Bank. “The banking industry desperately needs more diversity, and Girls Who Invest does a terrific job of preparing young women for future success at the world’s largest banks.”
“We are extremely grateful for Amalgamated Bank’s effort to support diversity in the financial sector,” said Kathleen Dunlap, CEO of Girls Who Invest. “With less than 10 percent of the world’s investable capital managed by women, diversity in asset management is a critical goal for our industry to achieve. On behalf of all those whom Girls Who Invest serves, we thank you.”
At the end of June, 30 scholars completed the inaugural GWI Summer intensive program. This week, those young women will have the opportunity to build upon that knowledge through internships across the country with leading asset management firms.
Amalgamated Bank has made the diversification of the banking industry a primary focus. In May 2016, Lynne Fox was named Chairwoman—the first female Chair of the Board.

About Girls Who Invest
Girls Who Invest (“GWI”) is a non-profit organization founded in April 2015 dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry. Our benchmark for success is to have 30% of the world’s investable capital managed by women by 2030. This goal is in sharp contrast to 2014, a year in which less than 10% of the world’s investable capital was managed by women. We focus on education, industry outreach, accessibility and career placement to achieve our mission. At GWI, we aim to create programs to inspire and support young women to become tomorrow’s leaders.
