Today, April 14, 2023, officially marks the 100-year anniversary of Amalgamated Bank. A momentous and notable achievement for a bank started by women and immigrants in 1923.
It was the vision of those pioneers to offer affordable access to banking for all, a commitment to the greater good and a desire to change the banking system, that still informs much of what we do today.
As we reflect on the last 100 years, I’m struck by how groundbreaking our vision was at the time, and how much the rest of the financial sector is still working to catch up to those ideals. And even more importantly, the opportunity we have over the next 100 years to continue to be at the forefront of banking.
As we look to the next 100 years, we know that we can make impact in even more areas. Great areas of inequity still exist in wealth gaps, racial inequality, and environmental justice, to name a few. We are confident that together, working with our values-aligned organizations and partners, we can create the products, policies and services needed to address these vital issues.
Of course, we could not have reached our Centennial without your unwavering support. Throughout the years you have championed our mission, worked alongside us to seek innovative solutions to advance social change, and built strong relationships with our dedicated staff. We owe you a debt of gratitude for your commitment to banking that seeks to create change and look forward to continuing to serve you in the future.
In celebration of this milestone, I’m also excited to announce that myself and members of the Amalgamated team will be ringing the Closing Bell at the Nasdaq on Monday, April 17th at 4:00ET. If you can, I encourage you to tune in to our social media accounts and join us as we celebrate the next 100 years of Amalgamated Bank.
From all of us at Amalgamated, thank you.
